The Dallas Muzzle Loading Gun Club
We meet the first Friday of each month in Dallas and Shoot the second Sunday of each month (first or third Sunday in May due to Mother’s Day – other exceptions can occur due to holidays) at our private Range which is located near the west side of Cedar Creek Lake about 60 miles east of Dallas and about 3 miles east of Tool, Texas.
The Breechplug an eight page newsletter mailed, more pages if emailed, published each month. Monthly Meetings consist of a business meeting starting at 8:00 p.m. and a program. It is held at the Strike It Rich Bingo Parlor in the Ferguson Village Shopping Center at the Northeast corner of Ferguson Road and Oates Drive at 9888 Ferguson Road in Dallas

Our Shoots start at 11:00 a.m. during cool months 10:00 a.m. during hot months and consists of three rifle matches, a pistol match, a smoothbore musket match, and a rifled musket match all at 25 or 50 yards. We sometimes include a Specialty Match. There are no special dress requirements for the Monthly Shoots. You can shoot in only those matches you care to shoot in. We allow all muzzle loading guns, percussion, flintlock, and inline, percussion revolvers, but no magnification scopes or magnification devices of any kind. Matches cost $1.00 each and prizes are ribbons. We also award aggregate shooting plaques once a year.
Our private Range is located on a 20-acre tract of land owned by the Club and it is fully paid for. We have a 100 yard shooting range with a covered firing line, loading benches, and a large camping area. Members are provided the code to the gate lock and can use the Range 365 days a year if they wish. There is no water or electricity at the Range. The road off of a paved county road onto the Range property is gravel and/or caliche and accessible during a heavy rain storm. When I joined, there was an unwritten rule that members, as a part of enjoying use of the Range, were expected to participate in Range work party/cleanups twice a year unless circumstances prohibited them from doing so. This expectation was not passed on to all members, but such unwritten rule is now back in full force. Your help is needed in keeping the Range in excellent and safe condition and will be appreciated.

Frozen Foot Rendezvous We also have an annual rendezvous called Frozen Foot. It is usually held the third weekend in January and formally runs a Friday through Sunday. Period dress is required Saturday and Sunday and so is period camping in the main camp area. The Smoothbore Frolic this year will become a Smoothbore Shoot/Rendezvous on October 18,19 and 20th. Details are in the works and will be explained in a flyer later this year.
Our fiscal year runs from March 1 through the end of February. That is the period we use for membership dues and aggregate shooting award plaques. To become a member, one needs to attend a total of 3 Meetings and/or Shoots, 1 of which must be a Shoot and you must participate in the Shoot for it to count as having attended a Shoot. Dues are $35.00 per year. There is a onetime Range Initiation Fee of $25.00 which is due no later than the second year of membership. We currently have approximately 90 members with about 25 to 35 participating in the monthly Shoots. The Club is in excellent financial condition and we have an insurance policy covering the members, the officers, and the Range.
